In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.
Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.
Blab World Volume 2
by Monte Beauchamp (editor)
The name Blab has long been synonymous with quality illustration and comics arts. This new hardcover features work by Peter Kuper, Drew Friedman, a tribute to R. Crumb's Zap Comix and more. It's a comics arts feast.
Eyes Of The Cat (Hardcover)
by Alejandro Jorodowsky / Moebius
If you missed this early collaboration of Moebius & Jodorowsky the first time it came out in a limited edition format, now's your chance to check out this apocalyptic tale of a man, bird and cat.
by Mat Johnson / Andrea Mutti
Let's see if this doesn't sound timely - it's election year and a militia group is plotting to assassinate the African-American president of the United States. I know, right? Sadly, the plot sounds realistic. Here's where it seems like it may get somewhat fantastic - the person infiltrating the hate-group to help save the President's life is a Right Wing Media pundit. Wait... unless... no, it can't be! Maybe Limbaugh is a spy helping the government monitor the activities of the hate groups that love him? Whoa... Timely and suspenseful.
Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life (Color/HC Edition)
by Bryan Lee O'Malley
The source material for the cult-classic film of the same name gets colorized (it was originally published in black & white) and the hardcover treatment with some bonus material. If you liked the Edgar Wright movie, and there's something wrong with you if you didn't, this comic is like that, only more so. Now in full color.
The Shadow's Treasure (Deluxe Edition)
by Alejandro Jorodowsky / Francois Boucq
A beautiful, over-sized, hardcover, deluxe, limited edition of an early collaboration between Jodorowsky and Boucq, available for the first time in English.
