This Week's Interesting CD & DVD Releases
My music preorder was a no-brainer this week. Joanna Newsom's Ys has become my favorite album of the year. The dream team that included Van Dyke Parks' orchestral arrangements, Steve Albini's engineering and Jim O'Rourke's mastering (not to mention Newsom's songwriting and ethereal voice) has truly created a heavenly masterpiece.
With my birthday Wednesday, I am under house orders not to pick up anything else until then, lest I disappoint family and friends. Luckily, I already have most of the other discs that highly interest me this week.
Wrens fans can rejoice in the official reissues of Secaucus and Silver (finally), and the 19-disc Clash singles box set is also released tomorrow. Laura Gibson's If You Come to Greet Me was a pleasant surprise of the discs I already have, and I can't recommend Christine Fellows' Paper Anniversary enough.
