Daily Downloads (Alina Simone, Moviola, and more)
Generally, covers albums don't excite me. After the hype has faded and I hear the actual music, the albums are often tired retreads of too familiar tunes.
Alina Simone has produced a covers album that I truly love. Everyone Is Calling Out to Me, Beware is a collection of songs written by Soviet punk folk singer Yanka Dyagileva, and is out April 15th. Sung entirely in Russian, the album exposed me to a wonderful songwriter, and Simone's unique voice and arrangements are a perfect match for the lyrics.
Simone will be at SXSW with her band doing all-Russian sets.

Spirit of Orr is releasing a collection of out-of-print singles, b-sides, comp tracks, a live track, and altogether unreleased Moviola songs, Broken Horses. A limited edition of 300 copies in hand-painted digipacks, this is a must-have retrospective for fans of the Columbus band.
