This Week's Interesting CD Releases (May 27th, 2008)

With the Memorial Day holiday today, the new music release list is a bit shorter than usual in both length and star power. Of all the releases this week, I have enjoyed John Hiatt's new album Same Old Man the most. Hiatt is a legend as a songwriter, and this collection of songs is a prime example of his craft. He may be getting older, but he doesn't confuse maturity with sentimentality or nostalgia.

Other discs I have already heard and can strongly recommend this week include Malcolm Middleton's Sleight of Heart, Julie Ocean's Long Gone and Nearly There, Spiritualized's Songs in A&E, and Walter Meego's Voyager.

At the top of my shopping list are the digital release of Mt. Eerie's Black Wooden Ceiling Opening and Ellen Allien's SOOL.

What are you picking up this week? Are there any releases worth adding to the list?
