This Week's Interesting DVD Releases (June 10th, 2008)

Of this week's DVD releases, the John Adams HBO miniseries is the one I can wholeheartedly recommend. After finding the David McCullough book on which it is based a bit tedious, I was surprised to find myself enchanted by this show, especially by Paul Giamatti's spellbinding performance as our second president.

Other television series worth checking out are the second season of Cartoon Network's Boondocks and the fourth season of Hawaii Five-O. The complete series box sets of Soap and What's Happening are also available tomorrow.

Box sets featuring two venerable actresses lead off the feature film releases. Both the Catherine Deneuve Collection and the Sophia Loren 4-Film Collection are on my shopping list.

The variety of music video releases this week ranges from Bob Dylan: 1978-1989 - Both Ends of the Rainbow to John Cage: The Revenge of the Dead Indians to Marduk: Blood Puke Salvation (a band known to Mountain Goats fans from the song "Marduk T-Shirt Men's Room Incident" off Heretic Pride).
