This Week's Interesting DVD Releases (July 1st, 2008)
4th of July week brings a lean list of DVD releases. While many films are interesting, there are few I will be rushing out to buy or rent. Director Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me) returns with the second season of his television series, 30 Days.
The Criterion Collection releases two films focusing on Yukio Mishima this week. Paul Schrader's 1985 film, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters chronicles the author and playwright's life, while Patriotism was co-directed and co-authored by Mishima. I will definitely be picking these up, along with Batman - The Movie (Special Edition of the 1966 film).
Among the music releases, I am most intrigued by Lou Reed: Live!, which captures a variety of live performances.
