Why Obama, by Abiola Abrams
Why Obama is a series of guest essays by musicians and authors, where they share their support for Democratic United States presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama and offer arguments why he needs to be elected president of the United States.

In her own words, here is Abiola Abrams' Why Obama essay :
The moment is upon us so this will be short and sweet.
My novel Dare is about a woman trying to find out who she really is and my blog Abiola & The Goddess Factory is about finding inner strength and personal empowerment. However, we can only have the luxury of pondering inner strength if our outer issues are taken care of. As a woman who is concerned with the issues that affect women there can only be one candidate.
Barack Obama defends a woman’s right to make choices about her own body. Both Senator John McCain and Sarah Palin believe that Roe vs. Wade was a mistake. As far as teen sex education and pregnancy is concerned, the McCain / Palin ticket are staunch advocates of an abstinence agenda. Sarah Palin was unable to make this work in her own home, how can she make this successful country wide? In stark contrast, Senator Barack Obama supports age-appropriate sex education and making sure that young people are informed.
Quite frankly it is appalling and ridiculous to me that the issue of women receiving equal pay for equal work is even still an issue. Yet Senator John McCain is opposed to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The chief sponsor of the Victims' Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA) was Senator Barack Obama. This act was designed to help domestic violence victims keep their jobs. Joe Biden wrote the landmark bill that eventually passed as the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. Senator Obama was a cosponsor of helping to reauthorize this act in 2005.
Senator John McCain’s first major decision was to choose a VP and choosing Governor Sarah Palin was clearly a stumble, even according to many McCain cohorts. Also, the way that John McCain has treated women privately is a turn off to say the least. To have publicly referred to his wife as a “c*nt” and to have left his first wife in such dire circumstances. Ugh. And during the financial crisis when he “suspended” his campaign, Senator McCain appeared confused. A president must be able to multitask. I am looking forward to Senator Obama’s modern and progressive thoughts on defense and foreign policy vs more Go It Alone “Maverick” politics, in addition to his economic policies and health insurance plan.
Also, an interesting update on John McCain’s best friend Joe the Plumber. “Joe” is not even a licensed plumber and is apparently now pursuing a singing career. God bless America!
Oh – and while you’re at it, please check out and enjoy this video that I did with NewsOne: “What if Sarah Palin Was Black?”
Then, go out and Barack the Vote!
