This Week's Interesting DVD Releases (February 10, 2009)
With the inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama not even a month old, CNN has gathered up two consecutive hours of its inauguration coverage and is releasing the historic event on DVD tomorrow. If that's not enough Obama coverage for you, 60 Minutes Presents: Obama: All Access - Barack Obama's Road to the White House profiles the new president and examines his fight to gain the presidency.
Among the week's theatrical film releases is another political offering, Oliver Stone's fictional George W. Bush drama W.. Also out this week are Richard Gere and Diane Lane's Nights in Rodanthe and Bernie Mac's last film, Soul Men
The Criterion Collection is releasing two Luis Bunuel films this week, The Exterminating Angel and Simon of the Desert.
The documentary Obscene: A Portrait of Barney Rossett and Grove Press is a film biography of controversial publisher, and any film that features John Waters, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, John Sayles, and Gore Vidal talking about free expression of the arts goes to the top of my viewing list.
Two of my favorite films of all time are out in Blu-Ray this week, Donnie Darko, and Raging Bull.
Television releases are slim, but there is always Melrose Place: The Fifth Season, Vol. 1.
