This Week's Interesting DVD Releases (July 28th, 2009)
Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series (and its Blu-ray edition) is in stores tomorrow as is Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5. The Guinness Book of World Records may have named Doctor Who the most successful sci-fi television series of all time, but Battlestar Galactica has long been my personal favorite.
The first season of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse started slowly, but eventually earned my devotion and is strongly recommended. Torchwood: Children of Earth is an excellent 5-episode miniseries.
The Criterion Collection releases its edition of Roman Polanski's classic film Repulsion tomorrow.
Comics and anime fans should relish The Astonishing Work of Tezuka Osamu and Spectacular Spider-Man: Complete First Season, and animation fans can look forward to several noteworthy DVD sets: Bill Plympton's Dog Days: A Collection of Short Films 2004-2008, The Animation of Alexeieff, and Extreme Animation: Films By Phil Mulloy, as well as the animated feature Green Lantern: First Flight.
