This Week's Interesting Music Releases (August 25th, 2009)
Imogen Heap's new album, Ellipse is out this week and is also available in a 2-CD edition that includes a bonus CD filled with instrumental tracks from the album.
Rounder Records' 4-CD Woody Guthrie box set My Dusty Road may be the week's most interesting release, packaged in an old-fashioned suitcase. The discs aim to be a definitive collection of Guthrie's mid-1940s recordings and were pulled from newly discovered masters.
Other albums I have heard and can strongly recommend this week include Blitzen Trapper's Black River Killer EP, Mew's No More Stories…, The Postmarks' Memoirs at the End of the World, and Still Life Still's Girls Come Too.
Comedian Patton Oswalt's new album My Weakness Is Strong is not only hilarious, but a work of art (cartoonist Ivan Brunetti drew the cover illustrations).
Several classic indie rock albums are being reissued this week, including four remastered Smiths albums on vinyl (Meat Is Murder, The Queen Is Dead, The Smiths, and Strangeways, Here We Come), two Wilco vinyl 2-LP reissues (Being There and Summerteeth, both with accompanying CD), and three Radiohead limited edition reissues with bonus CD & DVD (Amnesiac, Hail To the Thief, and Kid A).
