This Week's Interesting DVD Releases (March 23, 2010)
The third season of Mad Men is in stores tomorrow, and is the standout television release of the week.
Wes Anderson's animated The Fantastic Mr. Fox, the critically acclaimed Seraphine, and The Blind Side (featuring Sandra Bullock's Oscar-winning performance) are the week's theatrical DVD highlights.
Son of Man is an interesting film that retells the life of Jesus Christ in contemporary South Africa.
The T.A.M.I. Show is finally released on DVD tomorrow. The seminal 1964 concert film features performances by the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, James Brown and many others.
Criterion Collection releases of Akiro Kurosawa's samurai films Sanjuro and Yojimbo are both available in the Blu-ray format this week. My wife and I are slowly working our way through the works of Kurosawa, and I can't recommend these two films strongly enough.
Also out on Blu-ray this week from the Criterion Collection are Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven and Nicholas Ray's Bigger Than Life (also out this week as a standard DVD).
