This Week's Interesting DVD Releases (April 27, 2010)
Two Criteron Collection releases are at the top of my DVD shopping list, The Fugitive Kind (written by Tennessee Williams and directed by Sidney Lumet) and Ang Lee's Ride With the Devil.
Other theatrical films available on DVD this week include the Meryl Streep & Alec Baldwin vehicle It's Complicated, the Liam Neeson thriller Five Minutes of Heaven, District 13: Ultimatum, and the original and imaginative Terry Gilliam film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
Television releases are a bit slim, but I have heard good things about the BBC's Survivors: Complete Seasons One & Two and will check it out. Survivors: Complete Original Series 1975-1977 is also in stores tomorrow.
Three documentaries stand out this week. The End of Poverty offers insights into the causes of world poverty. William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe explores the life of the noted civil rights lawyer. Milton Glaser: To Inform & Delight profiles the noted graphic designer (I once owned and adored the Bob Dylan poster on the DVD cover, so I have to watch this documentary).
Six Centuries of Verse is a tour through the history of English-language poetry.
Blu-ray releases this week include Armageddon, Dune, and Tombstone.
