This Week's Interesting Music Releases - June 29, 2010
Wolf Parade's Expo 86 is one of the year's most highly anticipated indie rock releases, and one that will almost surely dominate year-end album lists (and rightfully so, this is as well-crafted an album as I have heard all year).
Delays' 2004 debut Faded Seaside Glamour was one of my favorite albums that year, and the band's new album Star Tiger Star Ariel is out on CD this week. I've been spinning it almost nonstop since picking up the mp3s last week, it's perfect summer music.
Other albums I have heard and can strongly recommend are Swervedriver frontman Adam Franklin's I Could Sleep for a Thousand Years, Alasdair Roberts & Friends' Too Long In This Condition, Lissie's Catching a Tiger (which gets released in the UK this week), and Maps & Atlases' Perch Patchwork.
If you have children, two compilations might be worthwhile. Putumayo Kids Presents Rock & Roll Playground is yet another fine collection curated by Putumayo, and you can put the little one to bed with Sleepytime Tunes: Lullaby Tribute to Tom Petty.
Cocteau Twins' 4-LP vinyl Box Set 1 and XTC's mammoth 13-disc vinyl Apple Venus 7" Box Set are the week's key reissues, along with a 2-LP vinyl edition of Cap'n Jazz's Analphabetapolothology.
