This Week's Interesting DVD Releases - October 5, 2010
This week's DVD release list is skewed toward television shows and Blu-ray releases.
Bones: The Complete Fifth Season is out tomorrow
Caprica: Season 1.0, Medium: The Sixth Season, SGU: Stargate Universe - The Complete First Season, and the animated Ugly Americans 1 are also among this week's television on DVD offerings.
If you like your television comedy more classic, pick up All in the Family - The Complete Seventh Season and The Mary Tyler Moore Show: The Complete Seventh Season.
Monk: Complete Series Limited Edition Box Set and Benny Hill: The Complete Megaset - The Thames Years 1969-1989are also out this week.
Among the week's feature films is an extended director's cut of The Exorcist and the charming Italian comedy Mid-August Lunch (Pranzo di Ferragosto).
I am not a huge Ken Burns fan, but I did enjoy his most recent PBS documentary, Baseball: The Tenth Inning, an addendum to Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns (which is re-released this week).
The Avett Brothers: Live, Volume 3 captures one of my favorite band's August 8, 2009 Charlotte performance, and includes interviews with both the Avett Brothers and their fans.
Many Blu-ray films are released this week, but the two that stand out are the cinema classics The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and The Maltese Falcon. If, like some stores, you are already getting ready for Christmas, Blu-ray editions of Peanuts Holiday Collection (containing A Charlie Brown Christmas; It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown; and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving) and The Year Without a Santa Claus are on store shelves tomorrow.
