This Week's Interesting Music Releases - November 2, 2010
Elvis Costello's new album, National Ransom, is out tomorrow.
Two efforts by notable musicians-turned-authors are in stores this week. Black Dub is the self-titled album by the latest project of producer Daniel Lanois (whose memoir Soul Mining: A Life is out next week). Keith Richards' Vintage Vinos collects some of his side project The X-Pensive Winos' greatest hits (Richards' memoir Life was released last week).
New releases this week are relatively few, but a few gems are present. I can definitely recommend Amy Bezunartea's Restaurants & Bars, Autumn Defense's Once Around, Destroyer's single Archer on the Beach / Grief Point, and High Dials' Anthems for Doomed Youth, as well as the compilation An Introduction to Elliott Smith
Among the week's music DVDs, Let's Spend the Night Together, the Rolling Stones concert film directed by Hal Ashby that captures the band's 1981 tour is strongly recommended.
The week's reissues are highlighted by a remastered edition of Wings' Band on the Run (with bonus CD & DVD) as well as Pinkerton, which also comes with a CD of bonus material. Weezer also releases the remastered Death To False Metal tomorrow, an album of unreleased songs.
