Largehearted WORD Books of the Week - April 13, 2011
In the Largehearted Word series, the staff of Brooklyn's WORD bookstore highlights several new books released this week.
WORD is an independent neighborhood bookstore in Greenpoint, the northernmost neighborhood of Brooklyn, that celebrated its fourth anniversary this March. Our primary goal is to be whatever our community needs us to be, which currently means carrying a lot of paperback fiction (especially classics), cookbooks, board books, and absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). We're a small operation, just 1000 square feet and four people, but we read too much, so it all works out. If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbrooklyn.
WORD also hosts the monthly Largehearted Lit reading series, featuring authors who participated in this blog's Book Notes series and musical guests.
Canal House Cooking Volume 6: The Grocery Store
by Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton
The latest installment of one of our favorite cookbook series. Beautiful pictures and recipes that you might actually make, instead of just stare at helplessly.

BabyCakes Covers the Classics: Gluten-Free Vegan Recipes from Donuts to Snickerdoodles
by Tara Donne and Erin McKenna
Hey, this book has "donuts" in the subtitle. Enough said.
Create-a-Story Kit StoryWorld: Legends of the Sea
by John and Caitlin Matthews
For the budding writer in your life. Obviously, it is always best to learn how to write a story by writing about pirates.
Monkey Business Volume 1: New Writing From Japan
Brought to us with help from our friends at lit mag A Public Space, the issue collects some of the best pieces from the Japanese lit mag Monkey Business and translates them. Includes poetry, a manga based on a Kafka story, a short story by Yoko Ogawa, and an interview with Haruki Murakami.
