This Week's Interesting Music Releases - May 17th, 2011
A Nod to Bob 2: An Artists Tribute to Bob Dylan on his 70th Birthday collects cover songs by Lucy Kaplansky, Pieta Brown, Eliza Gilkyson, and others.
Girls in Trouble's Half You Half Me is one of the year's stellar albums. Alicia Jo Rabins is one of my favorite singer-songwriters, and her storytelling skills continue to amaze me.
Other new releases I can strongly recommend include Amor de Dias's Street of the Love of Days (from Alasdair MacLean of the Clientele and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of Pipas), Bachelorette's self-titled album, The Elected's Bury Me in My Rings, Glasvegas's Euphoric /// Heartbreak \\\, Let's Wrestle's Nursing Home, Mia Doi Todd's Cosmic Ocean Ship, Miracle Fortress's Was I The Wave?
Reissues are highlighted by the Queen 40 Limited Edition Collector's Box Set, which contains the remastered editions of the band'sA Day at the Races Queen II, A Night at the Opera Queen II, Queen Queen II, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack albums (all with bonus CDs).
Another worthwhile box set is the 4-CD Mickey Newbury collection, An American Trilogy. The set contains four of Newbury's albums (Better Days, Frisco Mabel Joy, Heaven Help The Child, Looks Like Rain). All have been remastered, and are also newly available on vinyl.
A 30th anniversary remastered edition of the Go Go's Beauty and the Beat comes with a bonus CD of live material.
For audiophiles, four more Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds albums have been remastered (The Boatman's Call, Let Love In, Murder Ballads, No More Shall We Part), and all include an audio surround sound DVD.
