This Week's Interesting Music Releases - May 31st, 2011
Alina Simone's third album Make Your Own Danger features the year's most stunning album cover, and showcases one of my favorite artists' continual growth as both songwriter and performer. Simone's book of essays, You Must Go and Win, is in stores on June 7th, and she will read and perform at Largehearted Lit on June 8th at WORD bookstore in Brooklyn.
Kate Bush's Director's Cut revisits eleven of her old songs, re-recording three from scratch and replacing elements of others.
Death Cab for Cutie releases its latest album Codes and Keys this week, as does My Morning Jacket with Circuital.
The other new albums I have already heard and can strongly recommend this week are The Black Swans' Don't Blame the Stars, Mando Diao's Give Me Fire, Robert Pollard's Lord of the Birdcage, Seapony's Go With Me, Son Lux's We Are Rising, and U.S. Christmas's Valley Path.
The week's reissue highlights are two remastered Ozzy Osbourne albums, Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman, both packaged with a bonus CD of live material.
Four concert DVDs are released this week: David Byrne: Ride Rise Roar, Death Cab for Cutie: Live at the Mt. Baker Theatre, Eddie Vedder: Water on the Road, and MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young.
