This Week's Interesting Music Releases - June 28th, 2011

Gillian Welch's The Harrow & The Harvest, her first album in eight years, has been in constant rotation in my house for weeks, and is one of the year's strongest releases.

The music release list may be a little slim, but I can wholly recommend Handsome Furs' Sound Kapital, Jolie Holland's Pint of Blood, Mighty Clouds' self-titled album, and SBTRKT's self-titled release.

Two compilations stand out. Rave On Buddy Holly features a diverse group of performers (from Patti Smith to Cee Lo Green) covering Buddy Holly songs, and Red Hot + Rio 2 is a benefit tribute to the music and culture of Brazil, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting BrazilFoundation's AIDS-related projects.

The week's reissues are led by three remastered Kinks albums, Arthur, Face to Face, and Something Else all packaged with a CD of bonus material.
