Librairie Drawn & Quarterly Books of the Week - September 5, 2013

Librairie Drawn & Quarterly

In the weekly Librairie Drawn & Quarterly Books of the Week, the Montreal bookstore recommends several new works of fiction, art books, and comics.

Librairie Drawn & Quarterly is one of Montreal's premiere independent bookstores.

Every week, Montreal's Librairie Drawn & Quarterly bookstore recommends a selection of new books, including fiction, art books, magazines, and comics.

Lucky Peach

Lucky Peach No. 8

The very best of edgily antic food writing! The “gender” issue has two covers featuring every edible item that has ever made a preteen giggle and consists of a section just for men, one that’s women-only, and some “sexy” unisex stuff the middle. We love: artwork curated by the guys from Thickness and writing from Adam Gollner.

Blobby Boys

Blobby Boys
by Alex Schubert

We’re always pumped to get new stuff from Koyama! This is a nice little collection of comics that you may have come across on Schubert’s wicked funny blog, Zine Police. His crass, dead-pan commentary on underground musicians and zinesters hits the sub-cultural nail on the head.

Kus! No. 14

Kuš! No. 14

Certainly the coolest comics anthology coming out of Latvia, but also just one of the coolest in general. The theme of this issue is “sports,” but instead of inspiring us to get active, we just wanna hole up with everything else these awesome international contributors have published.

Map of Days

Map of Days
by Robert Hunter

This is everything we love about Nobrow: eye-bending colours! Impeccable design! The writing in Hunter’s follow-up to New Ghost has the same mysterious energy of his previous work, but this time his scope has grown to contain a whole creation myth.

Jane, the Fox, snd Me

Jane, the Fox, & Me
by Fanny Britt and Isabelle Arsenault

Local fave illustrator Arsenault is really churning out the beautiful illustrations as of late—in this YA graphic novel translated from the French, poor ostracized Hélène’s struggles at school and escape into the world of Jane Eyre come to life through the book’s delicate pencil work and soft palate.
