WORD Bookstores Books of the Week - June 3, 2015

In the Largehearted Word series, the staff of Brooklyn's WORD bookstore highlights several new books released this week.

WORD Bookstores are independent neighborhood bookstores in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Jersey City, New Jersey. Our primary goal is to be whatever our communities needs us to be, which currently means carrying everything from fiction to nonfiction to absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbookstores.

Station Eleven

Station Eleven
by Emily St. John Mandel

The WORD staff favorite about the triumph of art against demise goes paperback.

Saint Mazie

Saint Mazie
by Jami Attenberg

Emily says of Jami Attenberg's latest novel (a fictionalized version of the real life of Mazie Phillips): "Mazie was a strong yet compassionate woman who ran the ticket booth of a theater on the Lower East Side, and we get to know her through the diary she kept, her autobiography that was written but never published, and through the stories of those who admired her."

The Sunlit Night

The Sunlit Night
by Rebecca Dinerstein

A love story set in the half-dark (or half-light) region known as the Far North.

And Tango Makes Three

And Tango Makes Three
by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell

A reissue of the classic, heartening ode to the non-traditional family.
