Anthology Of Mind

Future #3

Future #3
by Tommi Musturi

Both Anthology of Mind and Future #3 are bright, one man, free-form comics anthologies where the flow of illustration styles comes just as rapidly as the ideas behind the stories. To try to describe each story in Musturi's books would be ridiculous - just know if you don't like the style of one comic, move on to the next - it'll be different (but all of his styles are amazing). After all, as he says in the essay "The Prison Of Style" in the back of Anthology of the Mind (an anti-style manifesto that every cartoonist should read and every art teacher should teach), "style is capitalist tool." Musturi creates brilliant and creative orgies of imagery.

The GRIND #1

The GRIND #1
edited by Filberto Nolasco Gomez / Monica Sheets

The GRIND is a sex workers zine published by The Feminist Strip Club out of Minneapolis, MN. This issue primarily focuses on Minneapolis zoning changes at strip clubs - but make no mistake - The GRIND has a universal appeal as Minneapolis isn't exclusive in dealing with issues. The GRIND also looks at worker conditions, other regulations, outlining the ideal worker-owned strip club, and an essay featuring a stripper's world view. It all makes for great reading, and it's capped off at the end of the issue with a selection of those sorts of anonymous, often agenda-driven amateur "reviews" that you find on places like Yelp and takes them to task for their BS. Well done!

Lorna

Lorna
by Benji Nate

Lorna is a knife-wielding, booze drinking, cigarette smoking, people killing, lovable, high school nightmare that you are disturbed by and you root for. It's pure, mean, murderous high school disaffection where friendship means not just helping you bury the bodies, but also doing some of the killing.

by Ana Galvan

There is something wonderfully paranoid about Galvan's comics: a job interview where one is being fucked with, an unpopular circus sideshow act determined to survive, a woman with implanted images. The coloring beautifully recreates the look of risograph while the art manages to convey, in a warm human way, the permeation of the digital world.
